Rachel James

Rachel has a background in academic research, completing her PhD in Molecular Biology in 2015 where she specifically studied the structure and misfolding of proteins involved in Alzheimer’s Disease.  Following this, Rachel made the move into translational research delivery, firstly as a Research Practitioner for the Adult Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Wythenshawe Hospital and later as a Research Coordinator at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine (MCGM), within the Research and Innovation Division at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.  

While working in Genomic Medicine, alongside Professor William Newman and his team, Rachel project managed a portfolio of studies related to the field of pharmacogenetics, including the Pharmacogenetics to Avoid Loss of Hearing (PALOH) study.   

 In 2022, Rachel took up the position of Project Manager for the Rare Conditions Theme of the NIHR Manchester BRC and Research Manager for the MRCC.
