Ahmet Yiğit Güler

My name is Ahmet Yiğit Güler. I graduated a few months ago and currently work in the Emergency Department in Turkey. In June 2024, still a student with a keen interest in medical genetics, I reached out to Dr. Banka after reviewing the studies conducted by the Department, I believed that participating in the clinical work here for a month would be a highly eye-opening experience for me and it certainly was.

During this period, Dr. Banka and Dr. Chandler were incredibly welcoming and supportive in every way. They not only enriched me with their incredibly comprehensive clinics but also went to great lengths to help me orient myself to a new city and hospital where I didn’t know anyone as a young individual in my early twenties.

One of the most enjoyable clinics for me was the Huntington Disease Clinic, where Dr. Craufurd also worked. I was deeply impressed by the multidisciplinary approach to patient care there. Similarly, the clinics led by Dr. Burkitt-Wright and Dr. Metcalfe provided me with unique and valuable experiences.

Throughout the attachment, they facilitated my participation in national genetics conferences, MDT meetings, and presentations, making the entire month filled with learning opportunities.

Overall, it was an amazing experience. I strongly believe that visiting this department, even as a student, is incredibly beneficial and offers immense value to anyone interested in medical genetics.
