Dr Himanshu Goel

My name is Dr Himanshu Goel and I’m a Clinical Geneticist, at Hunter Genetics, Newcastle in Australia with a particular interest in studying rare neurodevelopmental and neurogenetic disorders.

This year, I had the opportunity to attend the Clinical Genetics Department at the Manchester Rare Conditions Center, in England, for 4 weeks under the supervision of Prof. Siddharth Banka.

During my visit, I participated in clinical consultations in paediatric and adult care liaising with patients and specialists within rare disorder field including neurology, endocrinology and ophthalmic diseases. My favorite clinics were the with Dr Kate Chandler and Dr Charu Deshpande. I also attended a clinic with Professor G Black and it was an amazing clinic.

During the 4 weeks, I participated in various activities held across the department such as weekly departmental meetings, Multi-Disciplinary-Team (MDT) meetings, and educational seminars.

Overall, the observership programme was an excellent educational experience.
